Eating Right
Top 3 things I learned
Back in March of last year, I made a decision a decision that would transform me.
The goal was simple: LIVE LIFE BETTER
This decision came after a series of setbacks. No matter how hard I trained on the squash court or how heavy I lifted in the gym, progress always felt out of reach. Something was missing and that something was my diet. Once I started eating right, hitting my protein goals, and tracking my macros, I finally began to see real progress the kind that doesn’t just come from practice.
Here are the top three things I learned:
1. Get your protein in
I always struggled with this. I never really knew how much protein I needed, and there were days when I’d mindlessly eat protein bars or boiled eggs just to convince myself I’d done enough. Eventually, I found balance. A simple rule that helped: take your weight (in kilograms) and multiply it by 1.2 — that’s the minimum amount of protein you should consume daily.
2. You are what you eat
Enjoying food isn’t a crime, but overeating sugary, calorie-dense, and nutrient-scarce foods is. Your body is a temple treat it like one. Understand what you’re consuming: read labels, track calories and macronutrients, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Get your veggies in, have at least one fruit a day, hit your protein goals, and drink enough water. Take responsibility for your body.
3. Get those 10k steps in
No matter how your day is going, always make sure to get outside and move. Even on rest days or when travelling, make time to walk. There’s no better way to explore a city or clear your mind than by walking.
And finally, here’s something one of my coaches told me something that stuck with me and something I will never forget and something you should also not :
“Play hard, study hard, party hard.”
Whatever you do, give it your all, because that’s where growth happens. And above all, never forget to enjoy the journey.
